Preparation prior to your session

Dear Valued Client,

We’re excited about your upcoming tattoo appointment! To ensure the best experience and optimal results, please follow this preparation guide. These steps will help your session go smoothly and contribute to the best possible outcome for your new tattoo.

General Preparation

Eat Well:

  • Why: A nutritious meal 1-2 hours before your appointment helps stabilize your blood sugar levels and provides the energy needed for the session.
  • Tip: Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine; they can thin your blood and potentially affect the tattooing process.

Hydrate:

  • Why: Well-hydrated skin is more resilient and easier to work on. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment.
  • Tip: Aim to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day for at least 48 hours before your session.

Rest Up:

  • Why: Adequate sleep the night before helps you feel more comfortable and endure the session better.
  • Tip: Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep to feel your best.

Skin Care

Moisturize:

  • Why: Keeping your skin well-moisturized can improve the tattooing process and the healing of your new tattoo.
  • Tip: Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer regularly in the days leading up to your appointment but avoid doing so on the day of your tattoo.

Avoid Sunburns:

  • Why: Sunburned skin can’t be tattooed effectively and is more sensitive.
  • Tip: Protect the area to be tattooed from sun exposure, especially in the weeks before your appointment.

Day-of Appointment

Wear Comfortable Clothing:

  • Why: Choose clothes that provide easy access to the tattoo area and that you don’t mind potentially getting ink on.
  • Tip: Loose-fitting and dark-colored clothing is usually best.

Bring Identification:

  • Why: We might require your proof of age.
  • Tip: Have a valid ID with you, especially if it’s your first visit.

Plan Your Day:

  • Why: Tattoo sessions can take time, so ensure you don’t have other commitments immediately afterward.
  • Tip: Arrive on time and plan to stay a little longer than your estimated session time.

Additional Tips and DO NOT’S

Avoid Blood Thinners:

  • Why: Substances like alcohol and certain medications can thin your blood, making the tattooing process more difficult.
  • Tip: Refrain from drinking alcohol and consult your doctor if you’re on blood-thinning medication.

Stay Relaxed:

  • Why: Anxiety can make the experience less comfortable.
  • Tip: Consider bringing headphones for music or a friend for support (if the studio allows).

Communicate:

  • Why: Clear communication with your artist ensures your expectations are met.
  • Tip: Discuss any design preferences, placement, or concerns beforehand.

Do Not Consume Caffeine:

  • Why: Excessive caffeine can make you jittery and thin your blood, similar to alcohol.
  • Tip: Limit your caffeine intake on the day of your appointment.

Do Not Take Aspirin or Blood Thinners:

  • Why: These medications can increase bleeding during your session.
  • Tip: If you’re on blood-thinning medication, consult your doctor before your appointment.

Do Not Use Numbing Creams:

  • Why: Many numbing creams can interfere with the tattooing process and the ink’s absorption.
  • Tip: If pain is a concern, discuss options with your artist instead.

Do Not Engage in Strenuous Exercise:

  • Why: Intense physical activity can make your skin more sensitive and cause excessive sweating.
  • Tip: Avoid heavy workouts right before your session.

Do Not Tan or Sunbathe:

  • Why: Tanning can damage your skin and affect how the ink settles.
  • Tip: Avoid tanning beds and direct sun exposure for at least a week before your appointment.

Do Not Apply Lotions or Creams:

  • Why: Products can leave a residue that interferes with the tattooing process.
  • Tip: Avoid applying any products to the area to be tattooed on the day of your appointment.

Do Not Show Up Sick:

  • Why: Tattooing when your immune system is compromised can affect healing and spread illness.
  • Tip: If you’re feeling unwell, reschedule your appointment to avoid complications.

Do Not Shave:

  • Why: Improper shaving can cause irritation or cuts.
  • Tip: Let your artist handle it.

Do Not Bring Extra Guests:

  • Why: Many studios have space and hygiene constraints.
  • Tip: Check with us regarding bringing guests for support.
